Companies & Speakers

During MAXIS, a number of companies and speakers will be delivering sessions based on their experience and the work that they currently do. This is a great chance to network, learn more about different companies and what they do, and perhaps discover what you might want to pursue in the future!

SPCE

Start-up Brand Design 101

The idea for SPCE came about in 2013, when Leon was at University. By working in the Student Housing Department, he realised the rental market was broken. Both students and landlords were frequently facing similar and common, problems - but no-one was fixing it.

Omar was responsible for the phase one design of the whole app, as well as the current brand identity. He has also been managing the brand through social, web, print and digital marketing so far, as well as the launch and app activation.

A Director of Peace

In September 2001, as a result of Jeremy’s efforts, a General Assembly resolution was unanimously adopted by UN member states, establishing 21 September as an annual day of global ceasefire and non-violence on the UN International Day of Peace – Peace Day. Peace Day is an opportunity for UN agencies and NGOs to focus their ongoing life-saving activities within a global context. The impact of a day of global ceasefire and non-violence cannot be underestimated.

THE ECONOMIST
(DRINKS SPONSOR)

A Political, Literary and General "Newspaper"

The Economist was established in 1843 by James Wilson, a hatmaker from the small Scottish town of Hawick, to campaign against the protectionist Corn Laws. The tariffs were repealed in 1846 but the newspaper lived on as “a political, literary, and general newspaper”, never abandoning its belief in free trade, internationalism and minimum interference by government, especially in the affairs of the market.
